In Vastu Shastra, the main gate of the house is viewed as a carrier of peace, prosperity, happiness, and glory into the house. The direction, design, and decoration of the door entrance are significant in Vastu science. This science believes that everything in the house has energy that impacts the aura of the home as well as the well-being of the family members. Decorating the door with things not recommended by Vastu can attract negative energies into the house.

So, here is a list of things that should not be kept at the entrance or in front of the house's main door because these are considered to be inauspicious and indicators of bad omen in Vastu.

1) Water clogging: Never allow dirty or muddy water to accumulate in front of the main door. Such water is a breeding ground for bacteria and creates health hazards. As per Vastu, it is seen as a bad sign, as uncleanliness spreads negative energy. Water clogging in the west direction could also lead to financial problems. In addition to this, make sure the surroundings around the main gate are clean and tidy.

2) Thorny Plants: Vastu for the home entrance does not recommend keeping cacti or thorny plants. The thorns of these plants symbolise sorrow and hardship. Therefore, decorating these at the main door increases fights and tensions between family members. Vastu also suggests not keeping a shame plant, also known as a chui mui plant in Hindi, or flowering plants with an unpleasant smell.

3) Garbage Bin: It is a common practise in most homes to keep a dustbin near or in front of the entrance for convenience, but Vastu strongly condemns this practise. It is seen as a sign of problems and money drain because the dustbin collects garbage and useless things. Do not keep the dustbin in the north direction, as it is the zone of Goddess Lakshmi.
